the sun rises in front of you
An installation created for Becoming After in 2019

the sun rises in front of you is an arrangement of objects that functions as a map of the area where the objects were taken from. Some objects represent actual monuments and landmarks while others describe the historical and mythical features of the landscape.
The cardinal directions are indicated by the white and black rocks that surround the green figure in the center of the arrangement, hence the title of the piece, as the figure faces the East where the sun rises.
The intention behind this piece was to explore how geography rests in memory. Where in distance is warped, the details that are remembered and the meaning that is projected is determined by each individual.
